Responsibilities

Millennium Corporation is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to work 100% REMOTE. The candidate must be eligible to obtain a Top Secret clearance. 

 

The Senior Backend Engineer will perform the following duties:

  • Help identify areas of improvements in the code base
  • Use advanced design technologies.
  • Advocate for improvements to product quality, security, and performance.
  • Implement development best practices through abstraction of software elements.
  • Participate in all aspects of the agile scrum process.
  • Collaborate with all team members (Frontend, UX, etc.) to maintain a high bar for quality in a fast-paced, iterative environment.
  • Clearly communicate and document your design decisions.
  • Develop features and improvements in a secure, well-tested, and performant way.
  • Work with the frontend developers to bring data from APIs to the UI.
  • Solve complex problem using innovative thinking.
  • Ability to work with other team members to understand code changes and review business requirements to match development activity.
  • Participate in code reviews.
  • Review pull requests from other developers.
  • Debug code and find problems.
  • Maintain unit tests and integration tests.
  • Maintain good coding and branching practices
  • Ensure quality of the delivered components.
  • Be a value addition to the team to collaborate and achieve success by completing project goals.
  • Craft code that meets our internal standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale web environment.
  • Learn, collaborate, and teach other Backend Engineers. Everyone can contribute something new to the team regardless of how long they’ve been in the industry.
  • Establish and maintain technology and architecture standards for web APIs, including authentication, authorization, and logging and advocate for these standards through code review.
  • Exert influence on the overall objectives and long-range goals of your team.
  • Provide mentorship for Junior and Intermediate Engineers on your team to help them grow in their technical responsibilities and remove blockers to their autonomy.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must be eligible to obtain Top Secret Clearance
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or a related field and 8 years of experience required. Additional 3 years of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Experience building web services and REST APIs, especially if done using GoLang and PostgreSQL.
  • Desire to mentor less experienced developers.
  • Ability to define and maintain coding and architecture standards for our backend applications. 

Business Development

Assist with Business Development activities as required to support Millennium's strategic business objectives, which may include but not limited to participation in technical interviews, creation of technical documentation, general proposal writing support and proposal color reviews.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be comfortable with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 10-15 pounds at a time.
